Statistics for Road Safety

Course Overview

A one-day course to introduce delegates to some simple statistical techniques that can be used to assist in defining road safety problems. This course is suitable for anyone working in collision investigation, traffic management or road safety and wants to gain an understanding of analytical techniques or revise their statistical knowledge and experience.

Topics Covered

  • Calculating Collision Rates
  • Control Data
  • Are sudden increases in collision numbers statistically significant
  • Regression to Mean
  • Before and After study statistics
  • Statistical Significance
  • Poisson and Chi2 testing
  • Practical Examples

Aims and Objectives

The aim of this course is to give delegates confidence in the use of statistical techniques, as part of their role in investigating road safety problems. The course looks at statistics from a practical, rather than theoretical, point of view, and delegates will have the opportunity to work through a series of scenarios from first principles, using appropriate statistics to help them determine whether risk has changed, or whether risk is different from expected levels.

Certification

Delegates completing this course will receive a CPD certificate of attendance, recognised by both the IHE and CIHT.

Course Fee

The fee for this course is £395 + VAT per person, which includes all costs (course notes, certification etc.).

Having limited experience using statistics I found this course very useful.  I will now go on to broaden my knowledge and use within my workplace.  Excellent delivery! Instructor was very clear and patient!
